RWDC, a Singapore-based biotech startup, has developed a biologically produced and biodegradable polyester (plastic) called Solon™, which is composed of polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHAs) produced naturally by bacterial fermentation of plant-based oil or sugar.

This polymer product has the potential to meet the growing demand for biodegradable tableware. The biopolymers RWDC has developed can be incorporated into the manufacturing of many single-use products including coated paper and bioplastic containers. This can lead the food and beverage industry to reduce its dependence on petroleum-derived plastics.
