Tom Baruch
Tom Baruch is a veteran energy and technology investor based in San Francisco. He currently invests out of his family office, Baruch Future Ventures, a fund focused on energy, clean technology, food security, water, and sustainable agriculture companies.
Tom was most recently Senior Advisor and founding member of Formation8, a venture capital fund with $448M under management. Earlier, Tom formed CMEA Capital in 1988 with New Enterprise Associates (NEA). Tom was responsible for managing a total of $1.2B of capital across seven funds. He has led investments including major IPO’s and significant liquidity events for Aclara Biosciences, Codexis, Inc., Entropic Communications, Flextronics, Inc., Intermolecular, Silicon Spice and Symyx Technologies. Earlier in his career, Tom worked at Exxon Mobil for 12 years and founded Microwave Technology, Inc.
Currently, he serves as Chairman of the Board of Codexis, Inc. (NASDAQ: CDXS) and Intermolecular, Inc. (NASDAQ: IMI). Tom is a member of Obama’s National Advisory Council on Innovation and Entrepreneurship, where he advises the U.S. Department of Commerce and the White House. He is a member of the Executive Committee of the U.S. Council of Competitiveness and a member of the Steering Committee of its Energy, Security, Innovation and Sustainability Initiative and the U.S. Manufacturing Competitiveness Initiative.
