Strengthening Health Systems in Developing Countries Through Private Investment

This report was produced by the International Partnership for Innovative Healthcare Delivery, the Duke Center for the Advancement of Social Enterprise (CASE), the Calvert Foundation, and Investors’ Circle, with funding from USAID.

The report’s authors reviewed ~80 organizations and interviewed ~30 capital providers to understand the landscape of global health investors in India and East Africa.

The report is an assessment of the challenges in the sector as well as a fuller picture of the macroeconomic trends that are leading to increased interest in the private health marketplace. The authors developed a two step framework for evaluating health sector opportunities which highlights the different areas where grant capital may be more appropriate than investment capital and vice versa.
