Cancer Immunotherapies
Cancer is the second leading cause of death after heart disease for both men and women in the US. More than 1.8 million people will be diagnosed this year, and over 600,000 will die. Lung cancer is responsible for more deaths than breast, prostate, colorectal and brain cancers combined. Conventional chemotherapy drugs are notorious for side effects, and lack of targeting specific types of cancer.
Newer drugs are more precise, as they target cellular receptors and other structures that promote tumor proliferation. They are enabled by precision diagnostics that expand access to screening, and allow for earlier detection of cancer. These tests also yield data about tumor biomarkers which enable researchers and drug developers to further improve the way cancer is treated.
