Fractional Operations Manager

We are seeking a hands-on, highly organized Fractional Operations Manager to help run the weekly operations of a fast-growing sustainability and cost analytics firm. This person will work closely with the CEO and Product and Research Teams. The Fractional Operations Manager will keep the CEO focused on key aspects of growing and developing the business and product, help manage the day-to-day operations and projects deadlines and requirements.

The ideal candidate will bring order and follow-through to a small, fast-moving team: making sure the trains run on time, that commitments are met, and that projects are delivered on schedule and on budget. We are seeking a smart, pragmatic operator with strong attention to detail, sound judgment, and a passion for climate solutions. Project skills, emotional intelligence, and business- and technical-savvy are all priorities for this position.

Boundless Impact Research & Analytics provides precise life cycle and techno-economic impact data for advanced technology companies, sustainable brands, and investors. Our analytics validate and differentiate sustainable products, reduce investment risk, and support credible reporting. Boundless blends science-based impact analysis, industry-specific benchmarks, and AI-driven data to deliver the insights companies need to prove their impact and thrive in the market.

Boundless has completed assessments of dozens of cleantech products and projects —ranging from renewable energy, circular economy, HVAC and disinfection technologies, bioenergy and bioproducts, and innovative water and wastewater technologies. The resulting company reports frequently influenced investor decisions.

Responsibilities:

Business Operations and Management

  • Ensure research projects are delivered on budget and schedule including accurate time tracking, proper utilization of resources, and high-quality documentation.
  • Support Management and Research and Product Teams with ongoing resource planning and allocation, adjusting goals and expectations with project tracker, and managing budget.
  • Onboard and manage vendors and experts. Manage contracts to ensure delivery and quality of services are within established terms.
  • Execute administrative processes that enable organizational efficiency, profitability, and growth.
  • Maintain robust contracts management and reporting system; ensure that the contract billing and collection schedule is adhered to and that financial data and cash flow are consistent and support operational requirements.
  • Track and manage budget, forecasting. Provide financial reporting for Boundless management as well as external stakeholders.
  • Establish and maintain an operating cadence—regular check-ins, clear priorities, and action tracking—that keeps the team aligned and accountable. Give the CEO concise, regular visibility into status, progress, and risks.
  • Create and maintain systems, processes, and SOPs as decided with the CEO to streamline operations and capture institutional knowledge.
  • Review, redline, and edit customer and partner agreements (NDAs, MSAs, SOWs, and partnership and vendor contracts), identifying risks and non-standard terms, proposing suggested edits for the CEO's review, and coordinating with outside counsel when specialized legal review is needed.
  • Administer and coordinate contracts end-to-end—client, vendor, and partner—ensuring that deliverables, terms, and timelines are met.
  • Track and manage budgets and forecasting; provide financial reporting for Boundless’ management, research projects, and investors.

Technical Systems, Processes & Administration

  • Help answer inbound technical and security requests—e.g., customer IT/security risk assessments and vendor technical questionnaires.Triage requests, ask the right questions internally, pull in the product/tech team, and assemble a complete response.
  • Maintain and oversee changes to the company's operational tool stack (e.g., HubSpot); manage user onboarding and offboarding and access across business platforms.
  • Oversee upgrades in technical systems, software, and hardware, and train team members on new system functionality.
  • Help establish and maintain systems and processes to streamline operations.
  • Maintain accurate, confidential files and data records.

Human Resources

  • Assist with hiring needs including expansion of research team, tech support and an ongoing class of interns
  • Administer all HR functions including full talent acquisition cycle, employee relations, data management, payroll, benefits planning and administration, visa sponsorship, compensation, and performance management
  • Collaborate with onboarding and transitioning team members, managing user onboarding onto business platforms - e.g., HubSpot, Harvest, and Justworks

Qualifications:

  • 5–7+ years of operations and/or program management, ideally at a fast-growing startup, scale-up, or small business.
  • Track record of running day-to-day operations for a small team and keeping projects on time and on budget.
  • Demonstrable experience supporting scalable, efficient processes that bring structure to a rapidly growing environment.
  • Strong contract administration and financial-operations skills: budgets, forecasting, and reviewing, redlining, and editing customer and partner contracts. Experience with government contracts (FAR / DCAA-aware processes) is a plus.
  • Ability to understand company financial projections and costs, and to interpret and analyze project budgets and revenue models.
  • Excellent people-coordination skills—able to influence without managing, drive accountability, and foster a collaborative, results-oriented environment.
  • Comfortable working independently with little direction, exercising sound judgment and discretion with highly confidential information.
  • Strong technology skills and an entrepreneurial attitude; able to learn new tools and applications quickly. Advanced MS Office and/or Google Workspace skills.
  • Technically savvy—comfortable engaging with IT, technical, and systems topics; able to interpret requests such as IT risk and security assessments, ask the right internal questions, and coordinate a strong response without being the subject matter expert.

  • Bachelor's degree from a well-respected accredited college or university, or equivalent experience.

About the Position

This is a fractional, contract (1099) position—approximately 2-3 days per week—performed remotely, with occasional availability in New York as needed. Compensation is commensurate with experience.
